From the Shift
Since the beginning of 2026 I’ve been exploring the Red Cliffs Desert Preserve at the base of the continent’s largest laccolith, Pine Valley Mountain. I call this place The Shift because it has been the punctuation of a new direction I’ve been taking my life for the last year, a direction infused in my meditation there, my land offerings, and Jack’s feral sprints through the sage and creosote.
The mountain has been a fixture in my life during my most troubled times and had become too much of a reminder of those days, instead of time spent on other trajectories. But, that’s changed for me now, and not without the help of the film plane in capturing this collection of images.

From the Edge of the Pacific Northwest
I have the great good fortune to spend time in the Pacific Northwest. I fell in love with the land, the sound, the sea and the culture during a couple of motorcycle tours and have since returned to stay awhile. Our travels took us from the San Juan Islands to PNW’s coastline where, along the way and among hundreds of shutter releases, I captured the four featured in this collection; the off-season at Cascade Lake on Orcas Island, Kalaloch Beach, the Spouting Horn of Thor’s Well, and the Heceta Headlands.

From the Wedge of the Desert Southwest
This collection is the product of years spent exploring the Grand Circle, the San Rafael Swell and my own back yard. Missing from these featured cards are frames of Zion and Bryce Canyons of which I may create another collection in the future. It’s interesting to note that the images below range from a national park, – Mesa Arch, a state park – Snow Canyon, a BLM recreation area – The San Rafael Swell, and a natural preserve – Pine Valley Mountain. Wedge is a nod to a particular formation of the Swell carved away by the San Rafael River.

From the Sedge of the Intermountain West
Sedge is a grassy plant and in the Intermountain West, Alpine Sedge thrives in the high altitudes of these feature mountain ranges. This collection is a product of exploring the Teton, Lewis and Wasatch ranges of the Rocky Mountains and the Sierra Nevada Range on my motorcycle. Featured in this collection is the Oxbow Bend at the Grand Tetons, Bridal Veil Falls of the Yosemite Valley, the Great Salt Lake, and Lake McDonald of Glacier.

From the Hedge of the Central Coast
If you can imagine the great redwood forests of California as the inland’s hedge against the coastline, you’ll get this collection’s title. I’ve put more miles on my motorcycle on the Pacific Coast Highway than any other slab, save for my weekly commutes on I-15 in Utah. Like the Grand Circle, I have hundreds of frames of the PCH from San Francisco south to Paso Robles, and chances are you may, too. This collection of four postcards is from the central coast of the Pacific Ocean’s shore of the United States, including a memorable sunset at Pacific Grove, Big Tree at Wayside, the rocky shore of Westport, and lichen along the DeHaven shore.

From the Pledge of the Film Plane
A pledge is a serious commitment. The film plane on a camera is the space where light is recorded. Aside from the rhyme for the purposes of these collections, pledge best describes my devotion to this craft, to what gets composed on the film plane and by extension, what you see here. Along with that, I’ve had to consciously turn my own film plane away from stunning views above and take notice of the ground below, finding texture, color, shape and shadow to create frames of a more artistic bent. This collection of postcards includes shutter releases of those compositions, including the yellow lichen of the San Rafael Swell, the silt of the Carbon River of Mount Rainier, weeping in the Narrows of Zion Canyon, and a wonderful portal from the Colorado Plateau (look closely for the turquoise lichen within).
